Tournai – Grand Place
Less than 14 km away from the Your Nature Resort, the historic centre of Tournai’s Grand Place awaits. When, in 1187, the city received its charter from French King Philippe Auguste, thereby guaranteeing it communal freedoms, the people of Tournai decided to erect a belfry in the market place to represent these hard-earned freedoms.
From then on, the Grand-Place became the beating heart of the city’s community life. In front of beautifully restored houses such as the Écu de France or the Cerf, you can still glimpse at the entrance to the Rue des Maux, a street that takes its name from the judicial meetings held there in Carolingian times.
