The Château des Comtes is a landmark of the city and has undergone a vast restoration and tourism reallocation project. The outbuildings now house a Marcel Marlier Centre dedicated to the life and work of the famous Herseaut illustrator and the father of the main character of Belgian illustrated novels Martine.
In the 15th century, the actual site of the Château des Comtes was the seat of the fief of Les Ramées, which itself depended on the Seigniory of Mouscron, a property owned by the de la Barre family since 1332.
