The present basilica dedicated to the Virgin Mary was built between 1885 and 1892 in Neo-Gothic style. It is located in the middle of Bon-Secours, a village on the French-Belgian border.
The Basilica of Bon-Secours is a listed monument and the highest point of the Escaut Plains Nature Park. Since the 16th century, Bon-Secours has been a major destination for pilgrims coming to venerate the Virgin Mary of Bon-Secours.
The octagonal neo-Gothic edifice with a Byzantine overtone provides a setting for the statue of the Virgin, carved out of the original oak tree.
